Mike Coffey and his family have been a staple of the Treasure Coast since the late 1960's. He grew up in the River Park area of Port St Lucie, where his parents, Richard and Marilyn, coached Pop Warner Football and Cheerleading. He attended Port St Lucie Elementary, Dan McCarty Middle School, and Central High School. He has been an enterprising individual from an early age. He and his father delivered newspapers all over southern St Lucie County and he and a friend mowed lawns throughout the River Park area. Mike was a member of Cub Scout Troop 499 and served as a board member of the Port St Lucie Youth Center. He enjoyed surfing anywhere he could, but especially the North Jetty in Fort Pierce and the Sebastian Inlet. It was pretty usual to see Mike and his brothers cruising around in the family's '68 Barracuda.
Mike joined the Coast Guard straight from high school. He was an Aviation Structural Mechanic, C130 Crew Member, a Load Master, and a Drop Master. He spent seven years at the Coast Guard Air Station Borinquen in Puerto Rico. He also spent time at McClellan Air Force Base and Support Center San Pedro, both in California.
After a decade in the Coast Guard, Mike moved back home to Port St Lucie. He was involved in helping his family start what grew to be a successful screen-printing business, DragonFly Graphics. He spent several years at DragonFLy making sales, printing shirts, delivering orders, and even doing some embroidery work. From here he decided that what he really wanted to do was become a Paramedic/Firefighter. Mike has proudly served with the St Lucie County Fire District since 2008. He has been stationed in various places around the county over the past 15 years and currently calls Station 3 in River Park home--serving the area he grew up in and keeping an eye his father.
